You should first make sure that your device is compatible with the HS profile protocol. To see if it is compatible pair your Beany and go to (example is for Android):

Go to Settings  (or) > Bluetooth  then press  newt to the Music Beany.

If everything is ticked, make sure that the Music Beany has enough charge.

When in a telephone call, you can also make sure that your device is using the bluetooth device. Below is an example for Android.
